This has nothing to do with photography……just found this video and I absolutely LOVE this song. Off I go to iTunes to try and download it to my iPod so I can listen to it as I edit family images. Check out it out and let me know what you think.

If you’re visiting EI this summer and coming in on Saturday and you want to save yourself some time when it comes to grocery shopping. Check this out…………go to Lowes Foods-To-Go website http://www.lowesfoodstogo.com/ , register for a new account, choose the Cape Carteret store, pick out all the goodies for the family vacation, pay for them via credit card, tell them what time you’ll be by on Saturday to pick them up and they’ll have them bagged up and ready for you when you arrive. You don’t even have to get out of your car! They will even bring them out to you! Trust me on this one, this will save you so much time and hassle. You can start your vacation as soon as you get to your beach house.
Check it out and drop me an email if it helps make your vacation a little easier.
More later……

Here are a few images from the “windy” sessions. No great works of art here, but we did get the sessions in, despite the cold and the wind. The kids were real troopers and can’t say enough great things about them!

I’ve talked to several people this past week that say they read my blog from time to time and it shocked me that someone is actually reading this thing. haha I have decided to have a little contest to see who is paying attention and to reward them for their efforts. Here’s the deal, somewhere on my website I am going to hide a big X. It will more than likely be within one of the images, so you’ll need to pay attention and look closely at each image. If you find the image with an X in it, I’ll need for you to send me an email with the date you found the X, where you found it, your name, address, phone# and email address. I’ll put your name in the hat for a FREE BEACH SESSION($150 Value), plus a $200 print credit. That is a $350 value, not bad for just checking out my site and being the lucky one drawn out of the hat.
I’ll start this on April 15th and we’ll run it through May 15th. To throw another twist into this, I’ll sweeten the deal a little more for everyone. I’m going to change the image with the X in it every day or two, so it will be important to tell us what the date was that you found the X on what image. If you’re the very first person that day to send us an email with the new location of the X, I’ll give you a FREE 8×10 Coupon ($65 Value). If you had rather have an Emerald Isle Photography T-shirt instead of the coupon($15 Value), that will be ok and I’ll send it to you just as soon as they come in. So there it is, a test too see just who is reading this BLOG and lets see how close you guys pay attention over the coming month!
Just for the sake of fairness, ONE ENTRY PER PERSON, PER DAY and ONE WINNER PER FAMILY. Ok, now I’m going to go blog a few more things so this gets buried down in the blog some and lets see who’s reading!

Ok, I’ll be the first to admit that I’m not an Equipment Geek like some photographers. Some guys have to have the latest and greatest, I’m not that guy. I’m the guy that has used the same camera body for the last 6 and a half years. Yep, my trusty Nikon D1x will be retired shortly. Its a little bit sad to know it will be “put out to pasture” in a few weeks when my new equipment comes in. I can still remember the day the UPS truck pulled up in front of my studio to deliver it. It was around July 6th, 2001. (Just for the record, I remember the day I brought my daughter home from the hospital with almost as much clarity….haha) That camera has been my baby, its photographed everything from rock concerts, beauty queens, models, weddings, CD Covers, product shots, family portraits, children, pets………..oh wow…….I could go on and on.
I know you’re probably thinking this guy is a dork! He’s sitting here telling the world about his stupid camera. Haha…..yea……..that’s me………I’m that dork.
What can I say, it has served me well and now I’ll be putting it up on a shelf somewhere for my daughter have one day. I’ll make sure she knows thats the camera daddy started out with when he opened his first studio way back in 2001. I wish I could find out how many images I’ve taken with it, that would be great information to know. I may call Nikon tomorrow and ask if there’s anyway they can find that information out. My guess is well over a million. I’ve had the shutter replaced on it twice and they are supposed to be good for about 500k clicks. Ok, I’m rambling now……sorry about that, I’m ADD……..once you meet me, you’ll say yea…….he could be the ADD Poster Child for North Carolina.
I have one closing thought for you……
Never choose your photographer based on his equipment. I’ve seen award winning images come from a point and shoot camera in the hands of a craftsman and I’ve seen absolutely hidious images come from a newbie with top of the line equipment.
In the end, the image is all that matters.

Yea, its been a bit breezy here on the island this week. I had a session on Saturday evening that was difficult since the wind was blowing so hard. Then I had to reschedule a session on Tuesday morning due to the wind and cold. I’m hoping that for tomorrow’s two session the wind will take a break for a little while and let us get some great shots. You just never know what you’re in for here on the island, the key is be patient, don’t rush the sessions and above everything else, have fun. If you’re having fun, the great shots will happen, no need to “pretend like you’re having fun”.
Hopefully I’ll be able to post some shots after my sessions tomorrow and Friday. I just want to be sure my clients are ok with me plastering their images up here for all the world to see.
………………more later.

Yes, we are changing our name to better serve our clients in 2008!
We are changing from Jeff Pennell Photography (www.jeffpennell.com) to Emerald Isle Photography (www.emeraldislephotography.com). Jeff Pennell will still be the primary photographer for the business, but we will be adding at least one additional photographer this season to help with the increased demand. In 2007 we saw an unprecidented number of request for our family beach portrait services and we anticipate an even higher number of request in 2008. As of today (Feb. 17th, 2008) we have seen a HUGE increase for summer session bookings over this same time last year. We do not like it when we have to turn families away and we hope we don’t have to in 2008. We are going to do our best to insure that our clients get the GREAT IMAGES and OUTSTANDING CUSTOMER SERVICE they are accustomed to and expect from us.
Over the next few weeks I will be introducing everyone behind he scenes here at Emerald Isle Photography. My wife Rhonda will be blogging from time to time to help take some of the work load off of me. Also, we’ll be introducing our new photographers that will be joining us for the upcoming season.
More later……
